A rugged scent work hide vessel to be tossed/thrown so that the dog can work wide area searches without the influence of handler disturbance (dog tracking human steps to source). This barrel unscrews on the top and bottom and target odor/Q-tips are placed inside. The odor barrel is slightly weighted so it travels much further than a regular tin and the Q-tip will not fall out as often happens with a slider tin. Odor is available from the threads and dogs have no problem working to source.
Note: This vessel has no vent holes. Odor is released naturally through the micro-gaps in the threaded top and bottom, providing ample odor availability.
Trainer’s Tip: Dogs may not be accustomed to working a hide while their handler remains at a distance. If your dog struggles initially, it may simply be because this setup is new. Let your dog watch you toss or place the hide a few times to help build understanding and confidence. You can also adjust the amount of odor by adding additional Q-tips or cocktail odor with the large barrel.
